Skateboarding SOMA

Fans take to the streets to protest the privatization of “public space” after SF360’ Film + Club’s double screening of skate films at the Mezzanine this Tuesday. Steve Olpin’s film, “Freedom of Space: Skateboard Culture and the Public Space,” documents the ongoing fight between skate culture and the law. Skateboarding is illegal in nearly every city across the globe, even in places deemed “public.” These two life-long skateboarders claim to have suffered tickets, harassment, and even jail-time just for riding a piece of wood.(Photo by Justin Juul)
