Sundance on the web

Sundance on the web

By Susan Gerhard

When it comes to the multimedia megaproduction that is the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the idea of “see and be seen” has lately been replaced by “e” and be seen. No need to shop for ski wear when you can experience all the festivities you need on your BlackBerry. (Or watch all the shorts your heart desires here.) And face it, if you were actually at the Sundance Film Festival right now throwing snowballs ‘til dawn, you’d be hacking up a lung by now. Let others do that for you. What follows are the best 10 places on the web besides, of course, SF360.org to follow the festival’s few remaining days, fulfill your quote for pre-Oscar rants, and join the great Internet movie debate.

1. indieWIRE
SF360’s mothership publication, this year, with video broadcasts (!), blog diaries from iW’s best minds, daily reviews, and much much more.

2. GreenCine
Up-to-the-minute reports from GCers on the scene, and writers the world over.

3. Matt Dentler
SXSW mastermind (also housed at iW) offers another indie perspective.

4. Movie City News
A special Sundance section augments MCN’s tireless reports with Sun- and Slamdancing.

5. Risky Biz
The place to find the always alert Anne Thompson.

6. IFC blog
More indie perspectives, and even more opinions on the movie about the Sundance-programmed movie about human-horse love you can’t quite believe exists.

7. Film Arts Foundation bloggers
Our local nonprofit überfilm org sends its troops out into the mix.

8. Variety
Reviews, Oscar ads, more Oscar ads, and reviews!

9. Carpetbagger
Already departed from the ski-town, the memories live on in David Carr’s always composed NY Times blog.

10. Cinematical
Now featuring, yes, exit interviews with people who’ve actually seen the Dakota Fanning movie! (As well as podcast featuring ex-Bay Area critic Dave Fear)
